The Los Angeles Lakers have an uphill battle to climb in the final stretch of the season. The Purple and Gold have done all they can around the NBA trade deadline to bolster the roster.

Unfortunately, the team was hit with some concerning news regarding LeBron James‘ foot injury. With James out of the team for at least a couple of weeks, the Lakers faced off against the Memphis Grizzlies without him. The Lakers were easily defeated by the Grizzlies, and head coach Darvin Ham agreed that the team misses LeBron James right now.

“You got arguably the best player to ever play the game, you’re going to feel his absence,” Ham said. “That’s for damn sure. But we have capable players at all positions. It’s just a matter of us slowing down. Understanding what we gotta get to. Making sure our spacing is correct and then having a rhythm to what we’re doing.”

After watching the new-look Lakers play against the Grizzlies, it was once again proven that LeBron James is the glue that holds the entire roster together.

With him present on the court, the Lakers play like a well-oiled machine. However, in his absence, the Lakers’ coordination is all over the place.

When Will LeBron James Return?

Following the defeat against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Los Angeles Lakers are now 29-33 and still in the 12th spot in the Western Conference table. It is obvious that the Lakers need LeBron James in order to make the final push of the season.

But with just 20 games left to be played in the season, the Lakers cannot afford for James to miss an extended period of time.

Regardless, as per a new report by trusted NBA insider Shams Charania, James is expected to miss at least two to three weeks of action after suffering a foot injury.

Keeping that in mind, James will most likely be out of action for the next six to seven games of the Lakers. If the Lakers can manage to come out with a winning record during this stretch, it will be a positive sign. Otherwise, the Purple and Gold can essentially say goodbye to their hopes of getting to the NBA playoffs this season.
