Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook would’ve been one of the most formidable duos in the NBA if they were teammates in their prime. If you add LeBron James to that mix, this big 3 probably would have dominated the NBA in 2018 and even broken the Golden State Warriors dynasty with Kevin Durant.
However, they became teammates after AD’s injuries piled up and Westbrook was a shell of his former self. Westbrook has now left the Lakers and joined the Clippers, to which Davis had an interesting reaction.
Davis first pointed out that he doesn’t know what the chemistry dynamic is like on the Clippers before discussing the guard rotation for the Clips and wondering aloud how Ty Lue will use him. He emphasized that Russ will be happy to stay in LA regardless.
"I know they got rid of John [Wall] & Reggie [Jackson]… I'm not sure how T. Lue & the coaching staff will utilize him but I'm pretty sure he's happy to stay in LA."

“I am not a part of that team, I don’t know what their locker room is like, I don’t know what their chemistry is like… I don’t know, I know they got rid of John and Reggie from the point guard pool. I don’t know how T-Lue and the coaching staff will utilize him but I am pretty sure he’s happy to stay in LA.”
It seems it’d just be easier to join the Clippers for Westbrook due to the team’s need for a point guard and Russ anyway playing in the Crypto.com Arena as a Laker. Now he gets to wear the colors of the team that has been outperforming the Lakers for the last 2 seasons.
A New Chapter In The LA Rivalry?
The Clippers haven’t lost to the Lakers since the 2020 Orlando Bubble and outperformed them in the 2 seasons since. Given the return that the Lakers got by trading Russ away, they are looking like a much better team. If the Clippers lose to the Lakers when they face off on 5 April, a lot of the blame may get cast on Westbrook’s addition.
If there’s any team where Russell Westbrook fits well in the modern NBA, it’s the Clippers with the depth they have with 3-and-D wings and a lack of half-court creation. The final few months of the season will be extremely fun, especially with the renewal of the Clippers-Lakers rivalry, which seemed very one-sided up until now.
