Michael Jordan is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time but he also serves as an example of how being a great player doesn’t mean you would transition well into management. Jordan became part-owner and head of basketball operations for the Charlotte Bobcats back in 2006 and success has been hard to come by.

They had plenty of losing seasons and for someone so accustomed to winning, all this was very hard to digest. During one losing stretch, a furious Jordan decided to show up to team practice along with Charles Oakley.

Eduardo Najera who was on the team at the time recounted how Jordan, who was around 50 years old, was giving the starters the business and he then followed it up by beating Stephen Jackson in a 1-on-1. Raymond Felton was also a Bobcat back then and he was recently asked about what went down that day.

(starts at 1:50 mark):

“He was talking trash to everybody. It was fun though, it was good trash-talking. He said what he wanted to say, we said what we wanted to say and it was just getting after it. I think he still ended up beating us that day, to be honest. But I will say, I got me a bucket on MJ though. I did get me a bucket on MJ but he got plenty on me and he ended up beating us. I’mma just take my one bucket and go with it.”

It is amazing that he could still beat these players in 1-on-1s after turning 50. Bismack Biyombo also recounted how Jordan would play 1-on-1 with players after games and would absolutely destroy them. While all this is incredible, MJ will ultimately be judged on how the team performs on the court and it hasn’t been great this season either.

Michael Jordan Was Confident He Would Beat LeBron James 1-On-1 In Their Primes

Jordan had once revealed the players he would love to play 1-on-1 with and LeBron James was one of them. The two men will always be linked to each other as they are widely regarded as the two greatest players of all time.

The debates rage on about just who is better between the two of them and MJ was once asked if he would beat LeBron 1-on-1 during their primes and he confidently said he would! It would have been incredible to see these two go at it and it is a real shame that it never happened.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
