Russell Westbrook and the Los Angeles Lakers were a marriage that was doomed right from the start. Hardly anyone outside the organization was optimistic back in 2021 that he would fit well with that roster, and the move ended up being a disaster.

The sides finally parted ways earlier this month as the Lakers shipped him off to the Utah Jazz but it didn’t take long for Russ to return to L.A. He is planning to sign with the rival Clippers in a move that has definitely raised some eyebrows.

The Lakers fans weren’t fond of Russ during his time with the team and this move is hardly going to bring him back into their good graces. They reacted to the move on Reddit, with most of them being quite confident that he would fail on the Clippers and frustrate Paul George as well as Kawhi Leonard.

“I think the first few games, he’s actually going to do really well. Until 10-15 minutes isn’t enough for him. And the role isn’t big enough. And he’s back to the Russ we know”

“Just to watch PG and Kawhi’s face after every brick and turnover for sure a comedy show.”

“Clippers have been eliminated from championship contention.”

“The look on Kawhi and PG face when Russ tells them “let’s just have fun…” after missing a layup, shooting a 3 at 20 seconds left in the shot clock, a wild pass into the stands on transition, and losing his man on defense for rebounds.”

“Start of an error”

“Well it seems like he learned nothing from this experience so I’m sure he will continue to turn over no new leaves with his new team.

I’m waiting for the “I don’t know what Lue’s problem with me is; I gave him wine.” Press conference”

“I am ready to watch Russ hit 10 3s against us like clockwork”

“It’s a great day to be a Laker!!”

“Clippers fans will finally understand”

“Clippers fans think they’re getting prime Russ. It’s gonna be tough for them when they see Russ ruin their spacing and force them to play 4v5 because of his lack of shooting.”

“I think he’s gonna do much better there than here.

The roster construction makes a lot more sense without him taking a 1/3 of the cap”

“Lmao. Ahh can’t wait for the season to restart”

“Russ’ about to end PG and Kawhi’s whole career”

“Russ will be fine as long as when he’s in the game, he doesn’t try to pass, dribble, or shoot.”

“He’ll be waived before the playoffs”

“Gonna be hilarious when we break our losing streak against the Clippers with Russ on the roster “

“THANK GOD WE DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE CLIPPERS NOW “

“I’m shocked. I thought the Clippers had smart people in their FO.”

“I needed to start my week off with a laugh”

“Can’t wait to watch him and PG bricking up shots now”

While there is a chance that things go south, this move definitely has a much better shot at working as compared to when he joined the Lakers. He has got a lot of shooters around him and if he accepts his lesser role and is willing to play within the system, then this would be great for the Clippers.

Gilbert Arenas Felt That Russell Westbrook Can Determine Who Wins The Title This Season

Westbrook’s stock isn’t particularly high at the moment, as the deficiencies in his game have been out front and center. He isn’t a great shooter, doesn’t play a whole lot of defense, and tends to turn the ball over a fair bit.

Gilbert Arenas though was of the belief that Westbrook alone changes who wins the championship this season. Arenas made those comments last week and he thought that Westbrook can help any of the serious contenders get over the line. The best possible version of Russ at this stage of his career will definitely be a big boost to the Clippers but it remains to be seen if that will be the case.
