Now a week past the annual trade deadline, the dust has finally settled across the NBA. In Dallas, Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic are already hard at work figuring out how to play together. In Los Angeles, the Lakers managed to flip one of the thinnest rosters in basketball into a deep team of shooters and defensive stoppers.

Meanwhile, in Phoenix, Kevin Durant finally made his formal introduction as a member of the Suns and he kicked it off with a very revealing press conference.

At one point, he got emotional as he reflected on his time in Brooklyn and the relationships he made along the way. Later, he also spoke about his partnership with Kyrie Irving and James Harden, speaking rather candidly about the experience.

“We just didn’t get on the court enough. I think when you seen James, Kyrie, and myself, it was amazing basketball for 17 games, though. But in order for you to win a championship and be a great team, you need more time on the floor. It’s another story about why we didn’t get on the floor together, but we just didn’t get enough time on the floor and those are Hall of Fame players that I learned a lot from every day and I’m wishing them the best as well. It just didn’t work out.”

On paper, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden should have been a trio that formed the next great NBA dynasty. Their offensive brilliance is unmatched, and many believed they’d go on to win multiple titles.

Of course, we all know how it played out. Amid various injuries and on-court controversies, the Brooklyn ‘big three’ broke up before they ever really had a chance to take off.

Durant And Kyrie Could Reunite In Phoenix

Despite the failures in New York City, we may not have seen the last of the KD/Kyrie partnership. Irving is in Dallas now, but he is set to become a free agent this summer, and he will seek a max contract from any team willing to offer it.

The Mavericks are obviously one such team, but the Suns have apparently given consideration to signing Irving as well. Hopefully, in that case, the pair will have better luck trying to win together.
