Shaquille O’Neal has always been the one to go the extra mile, in sports and in his activities off the court. And cementing that fact was Charles Barkley’s story about the ‘Big Diesel’s initial days on TNT’s ‘Inside The NBA’
Shaq has had a successful stint as an analyst after his decorated career he finished as a four-time NBA champion. He joined TNT in 2011 and shared the screen with Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Barkley, and he has been an integral part of the team and the show since.
Speaking on ‘All The Smoke’ with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Barkley relived Shaq’s earlier days with TNT and his daily efforts to produce something unique for the audience.
He’s got a pure heart. But man when he first came there, the thing that was really funny…he come like the first night and he’d do something funny, the second night he’d do something funny. The third night he’d do something funny, then he’d say “Hey, I need you guys. I wanna try this next week!”
It’s not unusual that Shaq would have some plan up his sleeve. The man prides himself on being an entertainer, and Barkley also added how they joked about the center pulling off something extreme.
“We’re like, ‘Yo man, you know we’re on TV like a hundred and some days, you can’t try to some s**t out between each other every year. So we’re like the joke was that we’re 5 episodes away from Shaq setting himself on fire on TV.’ Because he was actually thinking how do I outdo myself every week.”
While it isn’t ‘Fear Factor’ that Shaq would do something of that magnitude, it isn’t a stretch to imagine.
Charles Barkley Reveals The First Word That Comes To His Mind When He Thinks Of Shaquille O’Neal
Shaq and Barkley’s banter may be one of the highlights of their show, but the latter has some warm words when it comes to speaking about the former Lakers star.
Speaking on the sidelines of an event around the big man’s documentary ‘Shaq,’ Barkly shared a few words that rings clear when the question was asked.
“Funny”
“Hilarious”
“Great businessman”
“Great, great, great player”
“Hall of Famer”
It does make sense that Barkley has some nice things to say. After knowing each other for over a decade now, their relationship and chemistry are distinctly seen on-screen.
Safe to say, the duo will continue to enthrall fans with their astute understanding of the game and some thigh-slapping fun while at it.
