Darvin Ham Says He Likes Russell Westbrook’s 1-On-1 Iso Play Against Joel Embiid: “I’ll Take That Scenario Every Day Of The Week And Twice On Sunday.”

Darvin Ham defended Russell Westbrook going 1-on-1 against Joel Embiid on the final play as he said he'd take that scenario every day of the week.

There have been some bumps and bruises along the way, but you have to say that Darvin Ham has done a fairly good job as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers so far. He has got the team playing with effort and has gotten the best out of guys like Russell Westbrook as well.

What really stands out about Ham is his loyalty to his players and how he stands by them, but there are times when you probably should be a bit harsher. One such moment presented itself in their game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday night when Westbrook had Lakers fans screaming in horror. The former MVP had the ball with the Lakers down 113-112 with 13 seconds remaining, and as Joel Embiid was on him, Russ decided to drive to the basket but wasn’t even able to get a shot off. While Westbrook got blasted for it, some questioned why Ham didn’t call a timeout when he had two remaining, and he said he liked that matchup for Russ.

Darvin Ham said "no, not really" when asked if he considered calling a timeout on the final play, saying he liked Russ vs. Embiid 1-on-1.

"I'll take that scenario every day of the week and twice on Sunday."

Ham said Westbrook just needed to finish the play.

“I’ll take that scenario every day of the week and twice on Sunday.”

Ham said Westbrook just needed to finish the play.

Westbrook doesn’t have that blow-by speed anymore, and he isn’t the great finisher at the rim that he once was, either, so it seems like a questionable decision there from Ham. He should have called that timeout and put the ball in the hands of LeBron James, who would have made the right decision based on how the defense was set up.

LeBron James Was Visibly Upset And Frustrated After The Lakers Lost

LeBron hasn’t been a very happy man this season. For starters, their record obviously isn’t great, and to add to that, the front office has refused to make any moves so far. There was some optimism in the air when they went on a 5-game winning streak recently, but it’s been followed up by a 3-game losing run.

James was visibly frustrated after this latest defeat , as he wasn’t really in the mood to talk during his postgame press conference. He would know they cannot afford to lose games like this considering the situation they’re in, and would have felt helpless watching Westbrook lose them the game.
