Kristaps Porzingis is a unicorn in more ways than one. He got his nickname from being able to shoot at an elite level despite being nearly 7’5″, and many thought he would become a perennial All-Star in the league. He broke out with the New York Knicks and some saw him as the franchise’s savior, but he ended up asking to be traded.
The story of Kristaps Porzingis being traded by the New York Knicks is an interesting one, with it becoming clear that KP wasn’t interested in staying. They traded him to the Dallas Mavericks where many thought he would have a massive partnership with Luka Doncic, but that failed for other reasons. Porzingis has been balling out for the Washington Wizards where he was traded last season, but it seems some haven’t forgotten what it was like to have him play for their favorite team.

The New York Knicks and the Washington Wizards recently played an intense game. Jalen Brunson, Porzingis’ old teammate was great, and KP himself put up 21 points, but the Knicks won. And after the game, a Knicks fan shouted to Kristaps that he should come back to the Knicks. The history there is deep because KP’s reaction was to hilariously wiggle his eyebrows and walk away. While the thought is a lovely one, it’s easy to forget how bad things got between Kristaps and the Knicks.
Kristaps Porzingis Reportedly Threatened To Go Back To Europe If The Knicks Didn’t Trade Him
In the last couple of years, the New York Knicks have become a respectable franchise once more. But they were a laughing stock for a long time, and Kristaps Porzingis had problems there. It got so bad, that Knicks GM at the time revealed that he threatened to leave the NBA if they didn’t trade him.
“He walked into my office and said point blank, ‘I don’t want to be here, I’m not going to re-sign with the Knicks. And I’m gonna give you 7 days to trade me or I’m going to go back to Europe.’”
That is pretty hardcore, but it goes to show how fed up Porzingis was with being in New York. It’s unlikely that even if he wanted to come back, the organization could move on from a thing like that. But the Knicks of now are not the Knicks of old, and anything is possible in the NBA.
