Ja Morant is perhaps the most exciting young player the NBA has to offer at the moment. There are plenty of young stars that have become superstars, Luka Doncic and Jayson Tatum spring to mind, but there’s something Ja Morant has that neither of the other two does. Morant is a pure entertainer, his moves on the court are jaw-dropping, to say the least, and he proved it again on Saturday night.

Playing against the Indiana Pacers and with his team leading the game comfortably, Ja Morant decided it would be a good idea to put on a show and detonated on Jalen Smith with serious ferocity. The dunk drew reactions from the NBA’s biggest stars, with Kevin Durant talking about it and then LeBron James posting about it on his story a while later. And Ja himself was feeling cocky about it, putting out a fun tweet after the video of his highlight went viral.

“Jump with me if you want to go viral.”

This isn’t the first time Ja has put someone on a poster, it’s something he often does and is quite vocal about. And with there being a lot of hype around this dunk, one of his colleagues, Donovan Mitchell, tried to use it to get him to participate in one of the NBA’s more storied traditions.

Donovan Mitchell Thinks The Dunk Contest Needs Ja Morant

There was a time when the NBA’s Slam Dunk Contest during the All-Star break was one of the most prestigious competitions in the year. The likes of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Dominique Wilkins all count among the former winners of the contest, but in recent times, stars have shied away from it. Well, Donovan Mitchell is a former winner too, and he told Ja Morant that he should declare for it already.

“Bruh just do the mf dunk contest.”

The Dunk Contest this season is set to feature a G League player for the first time in Mac McClung. And while that is a great opportunity for him, it has lost its shine without the most exciting superstars participating. Ja Morant would need a lot of incentive to do something like that, and, likely, it’s not even something he’s considered seriously. But for fans, seeing the likes of him, Zion Williamson, and other young stars take part would be a seriously amazing spectacle to watch.
