During his playing days, Michael Jordan had a vicious personality. Not many had the privilege of calling themselves friends of Michael Jordan. After all, the Chicago Bulls legend certainly had an intimidating aura around him.

But that doesn’t mean MJ didn’t have friends during his playing days. Former NBA star Charles Barkley was a good friend of Michael Jordan throughout their time in the NBA. While Chuck and Mike were rivals, they shared a mutual respect for each other which turned into a great friendship.

However, the two NBA stars are no longer friends. Charles recently explained how criticizing Jordan’s leadership style with the Charlotte Hornets ultimately cost him his friendship with MJ.

John Salley’s Take On Butchered Friendship Of Michael Jordan And Charles Barkley

Barkley further revealed that even though he and Michael have been in the same room a few times in the last 10 years, they still haven’t reconciled their friendship. Upon hearing this, former NBA player and member of the Bad Boys Pistons, John Salley, gave his take on the same.

(Starts at 1:14:00)

“I interviewed Charles last year at leaders and legends Tony Larussa’s event and we spoke on that last November last October and he said, ‘I made a mistake; I should not have said that about my friend.’ And Charles said, right there, I’ll say it, he was wrong for doing that and going at Michael. This is the deal; he understands Michael. He understands that when somebody, and everybody maybe should do it this way; when somebody shows you who they are, believe them the first time. And Charles, to him, showed on television saying what he said, that he wasn’t being a friend right there. … Charles maybe should’ve had a conversation with Michael about what’s going on.”

Barkley may have admitted that it was his fault for calling out Jordan, but the ball is still in Jordan’s court. There is no guarantee that Jordan will forgive him. We certainly hope that Barkley and Jordan can go back to being friends.
