Former Los Angeles Lakers champion James Worthy outlined his thoughts on the team’s future.

Taking to Twitter to respond to a fan question of what the franchise must do to get back to being title contenders, the 61-year-old had a simple response.

Worthy wanted the Lakers to focus on building chemistry that would eventually translate to results on the floor, and also had his two cents for the front office by urging them not to trade the draft picks.

Hello how u doing Big Game James what moves do u think the lakers should make to get this team back to a championship level contender out west? #jamesworthy

To which, Worthy responded:

.@flalos80I think the Lakers should hold on the high draft picks & build chemistry!

Worthy’s comments on the back of the Lakers going through an inconsistent run this season. The Lakers’ recent loss came from the Miami Heat who outscored them 112-98.

All Eyes Will Be On The Lakers Trade Moves This Season

The Lakers initially had a three-point plan ahead of the trade window, and that involved putting their picks on the table in order to make them a win-now team. However, the injury to Anthony Davis does make things tricky for the side.

The outfit is 2-5 in Davis’ absence. The big man averaged 27.4 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks this season before he went down with an injury against the Denver Nuggets. It was later revealed to be a stress fracture that has sidelined him indefinitely.

Much of the Lakers’ hopes now rest on LeBron James’ shoulders. Despite the veteran doing his part, Los Angeles isn’t carving out wins and is 14-21 following the loss to Miami. James is averaging a solid 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 6.6 assists. His last five games have him notching up 31.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists.

Only time will tell how the front office intends to make a massive roster upgrade. There are some big names who have been linked to the side, but for now, the market is dormant and it remains to be seen if the Purple and Gold get some quality matchwinners to help them at least make the playoffs.

LA is on a challenging away stretch and will face the Atlanta Hawks next. They follow it up with another clash against the Charlotte Hornets.
