Draymond Green Is Optimistic About The Warriors’ Title Chances Despite Slow Start: “I’m The Same Guy Who Everyone Told Was Crazy When I Said We Were Going To Win A Championship Last Year.”

Draymond Green is optimistic despite the Warriors' struggles, says everybody called him crazy when he said they were going to win last season.

Almost all the teams in the NBA that had a 15-18 record two months into the season would have probably been written off as title contenders, but the Golden State Warriors are an exception. The defending champions are trying to navigate through some rough waters at the moment, but they are confident that they can turn things around.

The latest setback for Golden State came in the form of a 143-113 hammering at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets, and it was the second game in a row that they had lost by 30 or more points. After that defeat, Draymond Green was asked about his optimism level, and here’s what he had to say.

via The Athletic:

Where’s the optimism level? Green was asked this question in a Brooklyn locker room after the Warriors were whacked by 30 points. His eyes bulged open. He tilted his head to the side. He grinned. The message: Why even ask?

“I’m the same guy who everyone told was crazy when I said we were going to win a championship last year,” Green said.

That opinion presumably hasn’t changed?

“Anybody proved otherwise yet?” Green asked.

Until someone takes down the Warriors in the playoffs, it is hard to argue with what Green says here. Except for the Cavaliers in 2016, no one has been able to beat the Warriors in the playoffs when all their stars have played. Injuries did derail them a couple of times, though, and Stephen Curry is dealing with one at the moment.

Stephen Curry Is Making Good Progress In His Recovery

Curry suffered a shoulder injury against the Indiana Pacers, and we recently got an update from the Warriors, which stated that he is making good progress. He is still some ways away from playing, though, as he will only be re-evaluated after two weeks as the Warriors are probably erring on the side of caution.

All they need is for their stars to be healthy when the playoffs come around because there is a belief internally that no one in the NBA can beat them if Curry, Draymond, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Jordan Poole are all in top shape. Wiggins has also been on the sidelines recently but is expected to make his return soon, which should help them in getting some wins in Curry’s absence.
