The Los Angeles Lakers have certainly taken some big strides as this season has gone on. They seemed like a lost cause at some points earlier on but have shown they have what it takes to hold their own against some of the best teams in the NBA.
After impressive displays in losses to the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics, the Lakers managed to get over the finish line against the third-seeded Denver Nuggets last time out. What made the win even more impressive was that they did it with Anthony Davis missing the entire second half due to a foot injury. Guys like Thomas Bryant stepped up in AD’s absence, and LeBron James credited him and Max Christie for the team getting the win. Still, it is clear that the Lakers need to make some moves, but it would appear they won’t be making any in the near future, as per Lakers insider Jovan Buha.
via The Athletic:
“When are the Lakers likely to make a trade?”
“Not for at least two to four weeks (the end of December through mid-January), according to multiple league sources with knowledge of their plans.”
“NBA trade history shows that trades don’t happen until January on the early side. Most happen within the final week of the trade deadline. There are exceptions, of course, and the Lakers hope to be one of them.”
We do tend to see deals get done in the final week or so before the deadline but the Lakers know they need to make a move before that. Davis’ spectacular play has meant there is hope within the building that they can achieve something this season, and they might finally decide to part ways with those two first-round picks.
Who Do The Lakers Want?
While there has been a lot of talk on who is headed out of the door for the Lakers, be it Patrick Beverley or Russell Westbrook, the question now is who exactly do they want. Buha, in this piece also reported that the Lakers are interested in Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, and Kyle Kuzma, to name a few.
Kuzma is a name that has popped up a lot in recent times, as the Lakers seem really interested in a reunion. The Wizards forward did throw some shade at his old team when he was asked about rumors of them being interested, as he said that the grass isn’t always greener.
