The Los Angeles Lakers are unarguably one of the biggest NBA franchises. They have managed to win 17 NBA titles, which is tied for the most titles in the history of the league with the Boston Celtics. The other team in Los Angeles is none other than the Los Angeles Clippers.

While the Clippers are yet to even reach an NBA final in their franchise history, over the last decade or so, the Clippers have certainly dominated the Lakers. It’s no surprise that they were deemed one of the favorites to win the 2023 NBA Championship.

Charles Barkley And Shaquille O’Neal Debate About The Clippers And The Lakers

The arrival of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George has catapulted the Clippers as one of the favorites to win it all this season. Despite Kawhi missing most of the games this season due to injuries, the Clippers have managed to attain a 16-13 record. This is obviously better than the Lakers, who now have an 11-16 record following a close defeat against the Boston Celtics.

Ahead of the Lakers’ matchup with the Celtics, NBA analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal discussed which team is better between the two. Chuck chose the Clippers, apparently due to the difference between the two teams’ records. However, Shaq was quick to correct Barkley and give him a huge reality check.

“Right now, if you give me the Clippers and the Pelicans, I’ll take those two teams in the West… If Paul [George] and Kawhi [Leonard] aren’t healthy, I might take the Pelicans. You know where you sound crazy right now? The Clippers lost 13 games the Lakers lost 15 games.”

Apart from picking the Clippers as his favorites, Barkley also named the current best team in the Western Conference, the New Orleans Pelicans, as his favorite to represent the West in the 2023 NBA Finals.

Speaking of O’Neal’s point about the two L.A. teams, he made sure to press his point of the fact that the Lakers aren’t too far behind the Clippers. Considering the two teams are separated by just a few wins, it won’t be a surprise if the Lakers surpass the Clippers as the season progresses.
