The Toronto Raptors are currently placed ninth in the East and are a far cry from cementing themselves as title contenders. This has led to speculations that the front office just might consider doing away with their big names if the results don’t show.

This news comes from Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus, who added that the Raptors are still keen on retaining their proven winners, but there have been other teams keeping a lookout to make a move if the opportunity to acquire their stars presents itself.

Pascal Siakam (25.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 7.1 assists), Fred VanVleet (16.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 6.4 assists), and OG Anunoby (19.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists) is still the team’s centerpieces, but going by Pincus’ notes, chances of Toronto making a trade are reportedly doing the rounds.

The Raptors are 13-13 so far but have been inconsistent. While they pulled off a win against the Los Angeles Lakers, they failed to close it out against the Orlando Magic.

Will The Raptors Trade Pascal Siakam And Fred VanVleet?

With some of the marquee teams looking to add potential stars to beef up their chances of making the postseason, Pincus noted that one of the sources felt that Siakam and VanVleet could find themselves on the trade block.

And it appears that while the duo may be having a good run, it doesn’t necessarily guarantee their spots with the Raptors. Earlier, news of the team looking to trade Gary Trent Jr. garnered some attention.

“The timeline of their players don’t match,” one source told Pincus. “They have good players, but it will be interesting to see how they navigate with OG [Anunoby] and Fred [VanVleet].”

“If the Raptors are to change direction, some around the league believe now would be the time, as players tend to draw less in return when they are on expiring contracts.”

Both players have one additional year on their deal, and that would mean Toronto can consider the idea of trading them for a star rather than waiting a year and dealing with them on expiring contracts.

At this stage, this news can be looked at as speculation, given there are no concrete developments yet. In the meantime, the Raptors gear up to play the Magic again, followed by a clash against the Sacramento Kings.
