Kyrie Irving isn’t often in the good books of fans and media, he is too polarizing a figure off the court. On the court, Kyrie is a magician, a dazzler. His skills with the ball are second to none, and no one comes close to his ability to dribble and score. However, off the court, he tends to make some controversial statements. Despite an overarching message of love and peace, Kyrie’s anti-vaccine stance rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, and his latest antics have only compounded that.
Irving recently shared a video of famous conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on his Instagram story alongside a bunch of other messages. Irving has always been about finding the truth, but considering how controversial Jones is, there was a severe backlash to Kyrie doing this. And while Kevin Durant might not be a big fan of media members himself, Shannon Sharpe used KD’s desire to win in an argument against Kyrie.

So when the topic of Irving and his conduct off the court came up, Sharpe was ready to let Kyrie have it. Speaking on Undisputed, Sharpe addressed his issue with Kyrie and how it pertains to Durant as well.

“Kyrie just want to be Kyrie. He wants to be this deep thinker, got people thinking that you know, he should be teaching at Harvard. But he just gets on my nerves. He just annoy me.
“If that’s what he wants to do, don’t be wasting KD, don’t be wasting taking these people money. Go set up something where you can do all these conspiracy theories, get you a podcast and get your own thing and do your own thing.
“I like to think that most players want to win or try to win a championship. I know KD is trying to win a championship and this man wasting KD’s time with some bull jive.”
Irving isn’t apologetic about who he is, and he is very passionate about spreading the messages he believes in. Whether people agree with him or not, Kyrie does stay true to himself. But ensuring that he is giving the right people a platform is also important, something that he will likely look into. As far as the Brooklyn Nets’ season is concerned, though, even they will be hoping the team can just focus on basketball and avoid any off-court controversies this season.
