NBA Insider Says Cleveland Cavaliers Would Be Open To Bringing LeBron James Back, But On Their Terms, Different To His First Return in 2014: “They Feel Good About What They Have… Back In 2014, They Needed A Savior.”

LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers have enjoyed a weird kind of history. The Kid from Akron has been responsible for the team’s greatest triumph, bringing a championship to the city after a long wait. However, he has also left the team twice, and the pain of his first exit has still not been forgotten, even if it may have been forgiven. With James potentially on the move again soon, the Cavaliers have naturally come up as a potential landing spot.

But the franchise that once relied on the Chosen One to bring them proper success is much different now. Under excellent management, they have built a really good young roster. Players like Darius Garland and Evan Mobley have developed nicely, and the acquisition of Jarrett Allen has proved to be a great one as well. The cherry on top has been the Cavaliers’ recent trade for Donovan Mitchell, establishing them as a true threat in the Eastern Conference.

Some believe the Cavaliers have arguably the best roster in the league at the moment, although that might be a bit of a stretch. But no squad is so good that they would say no to adding LeBron James if it were a possibility. And considering his interest in playing with Bronny, LeBron could be open to a move back home.

Cleveland Cavaliers Would Reportedly Be Open To Bringing LeBron James Back, But On Their Terms

In conversation with Mike Scotto of HoopsHype, NBA Insider Chris Fedor has revealed that the Cavaliers would also be open to having LeBron back. However, it would be different from his past stints in that he would not be able to dictate how the franchise functions as he was back in the day.

“I think they’d be open to it on their own terms, under the right terms. Terms that are very different from the ones he came back to in 2014. When you acquire LeBron, there are a lot of things that go with that. He wants power. He wants to help make decisions over the roster and people that are hired within the organization. He wants to be at the center of everything and have a team built around his strengths and things along those lines.

“The Cavaliers would not sign up for that kind of situation. They feel good about what they have here, especially with the addition of Donovan Mitchell. Back in 2014, they needed a savior and needed LeBron to come back and take them to a different level.”

The Cavaliers are building something exciting in Cleveland, and they will be hoping to seriously challenge for years to come. Their stars are all young and could yet evolve into superstars, meaning they are in a position of some power. How it will play out remains to be seen, but LeBron potentially winning another championship with his hometown franchise and maybe even his son would be something to behold.
