Kevin Durant is officially staying with the Brooklyn Nets, despite initially requesting a trade from the franchise earlier in the summer. There is no doubt that the Brooklyn Nets will be a formidable team next year with this development, and they could be a threat to win the 2022-23 NBA championship.
It was recently revealed that the Brooklyn Nets’ odds of winning the NBA championship have improved from 18-1 to 9-1 after the news of Kevin Durant staying has broken. While there’s no guarantee that the team will actually win the championship, the odds improving suggest that there’s a higher chance of that happening.

It remains to be seen how the Brooklyn Nets’ roster for next season comes together, but on paper, they are definitely formidable. A core featuring Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Ben Simmons is very solid, and the Nets also have good role players such as T. J. Warren and Nic Claxton on the roster as well. It is clear that the team has a good mix of offense and defense, and if they manage to figure out how to play together, they could be scary to face.
Obviously, the Eastern Conference has other contenders who have stacked rosters of their own. The Boston Celtics still have their core trio of Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown. They even added another impact player in Malcolm Brogdon this offseason. The Milwaukee Bucks are still led by superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, and they will likely be a top-tier team as well. The Atlanta Hawks added All-Star Dejounte Murray, while the Philadelphia 76ers re-signed James Harden and added role players like PJ Tucker. It is absolutely not going to be easy for the Nets to get to the Finals, let alone win the championship.
Hopefully, though, we do see the Brooklyn Nets get back to contention. They have been disappointing in the playoffs for the last two seasons, but perhaps next year is the year for them to win it all.
