Golden State Warriors Are Holding Their Final Roster Spot For Andre Iguodala: “If He Wants To Come Back, We’d Love To Have Him.”

Andre Iguodala was a contributing factor, especially in a leadership role, in helping the Golden State Warriors become champions in 2021-22. He even played in 31 regular season games and 7 playoff games, taking spot minutes to help the Warriors tide over their rotations. Iguodala was seen on the sidelines giving advice to the younger players and shouting instructions at them.

Iguodala has spoken about his body couldn’t cope with the demands of the NBA last season, and it’s understandable; the veteran is now 38 years old. And while he hasn’t decided on his future yet, the Warriors are clear on what he means to them. Steve Kerr spoke about him in an interview with The Athletic, suggesting that the Warriors are keeping their final roster spot open for Iguodala.

“But that last available guaranteed spot is being held for Andre Iguodala, who has yet to decide whether he will retire or return. As the calendar flips to August, the Warriors still aren’t rushing any decision.

“‘I leave Andre alone,’ Kerr said. ‘He knows where we stand. If he wants to come back, we’d love to have him. The one thing we feel strongly about with Andre is we want to give him whatever space and time he needs to make a decision. I’m leaving him alone. Whenever he makes his decision is fine with us.’”

Iguodala’s impact on the court is unlikely to go up, but his presence in the locker room cannot be measured by stats. Iggy was important in providing the intangibles for the team during their title charge, so it’s easy to see why he’s been given this much importance.

The Warriors will have a lot of competition getting out of the West next season, especially with the Clippers returning to full health. Kawhi Leonard looks hungry, and Golden State will need every X-Factor that they can get. What Iguodala decides is anybody’s guess, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him give the team another season and try to get another ring.
