Grant Williams paid a price when he agreed to attend the ESPY Awards hosted by ESPN. The guest host of the night was none other than the reigning NBA Finals MVP, Stephen Curry. Grant was on the Boston Celtics, the team that lost to Curry and the Golden State Warriors.

Curry made a joke at Williams in the crowd, referencing his green suit and telling Grant that he would let him wear it, referencing the colors of the Celtics. Steph then said he may let Williams try on one of his championship rings too, hammering home that Finals loss into the young forward.

Williams has decided to respond to the jibe on Instagram, sharing a picture of him on the ESPYS red carpet. In the caption, he tagged Steph Curry and let him know that he has no interest in wearing Curry’s green suit because Grant ‘doesn’t wear a smedium’.

This is an odd bit of banter from Williams, but at least he said something. Curry didn’t just poke fun at Grant at the ESPYS, hosting a skit where he said he was the proud daddy of the Boston Celtics.

Grant Williams enjoyed a breakout season for Boston, earning recognition for his stretch big ability while providing solid defense. He was a crucial role player for Boston and played a big role in the Celtics’ Finals appearance. He had some clashes with the Warriors players in that series, which is why Curry may have addressed his jibes at him.

At the end of the day, it’s all in good fun. Curry and Williams will meet again next season. Whether they meet in the Finals again is something we will have to see, but 2 regular season clashes between the Warriors and the Celtics are guaranteed.
