While the 2022 NBA campaign may be officially over, 2K season is just around the corner. In time for its September 9th release date, 2K sports is leaking information about the latest installment of the NBA 2K franchise — and it has the whole basketball world talking.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Devin Booker got the nod for this year’s standard release of the game. Today, Michael Jordan was named as the cover athlete for the legendary edition, which will likely go for $99.99.

Basketball legend Michael Jordan will be the cover star of NBA 2K23’s special editions, and 2K is bringing back the iconic Jordan Challenges to celebrate. The publisher also confirmed a September 9 release date and announced the six-time NBA champion will grace the covers of the aptly named Michael Jordan Edition and the limited Championship Edition.

Jordan was chosen not only because 2K23 matches his iconic jersey number, but also, 2K said, because his spirit matches the theme of this year’s MyPlayer campaign mode: Answer the Call. “After making 23 the most recognizable number in sports, it was only fitting that for NBA 2K23 we introduce the Michael Jordan Edition,” said Alfie Brody, vice president of global marketing strategy for NBA 2K.

NBA 2K is one of the giants of the sports gaming scene. Along with Madden and FIFA, 2K is unchallenged in the market and has long been considered the best simulation basketball game in the world.

With a yearly release, the game is always staying relevant and up-to-date when it comes to ratings, rosters, mechanics, and (of course) graphics.

In this year’s highly anticipated release, it is a welcome sight to see such a notoriously brilliant and talented player get the recognition he deserves. Jordan, a Hall of Famer, retired in 2003 as a 14x All-Star, 10x scoring champ, 5x MVP, and 6x champion.
