Zion Williamson and Ja Morant were both selected in the 2019 NBA Draft class, and there’s no doubt that the two have had fantastic starts to their careers. Both players are considered budding superstars and have made All-Star teams.
While the two are both on rookie contracts right now, Ja Morant and Zion Williamson are eligible for rookie max extensions this offseason. Based on what they have shown during their careers, keeping the two extended is a no-brainer for the Grizzlies and Pelicans respectively.
Adrian Wojnarowski has recently reported that Zion Williamson and Ja Morant will get rookie max extensions “out the gate” with their teams. It is quite obvious that the two are extremely valuable players to their franchises.
Expect Zion Williamson along with Ja Morant, who is the No. 2 pick in his draft those are going to be quick, max deal agreements out of the gate.
There was some speculation that Zion Williamson may not receive a fully guaranteed max contract from the New Orleans Pelicans. However, David Griffin has recently confirmed that Zion Williamson would be given a max contract by the franchise, stating that it was an “easy decision”. Zion Williamson could potentially become one of the best players in the league if he stays healthy and develops correctly.
Hopefully, we see both players succeed on their franchises in the future. The Memphis Grizzlies finished as the No. 3 seed under Ja Morant’s leadership in the regular season, and there is no doubt that they will be contenders in the near future. As for the New Orleans Pelicans, they made the playoffs without Zion Williamson this year, and with him, they should be a force as well. Both teams are in a great position to succeed, and it looks as though they are the teams of both the now and the future.
