Mike Bibby was a very popular player during his time in the NBA. The former Sacramento Kings point guard was never considered one of the NBA’s elite players, but was a true fan favorite, as many fans always wanted to see him succeed. But the extent of his popularity may be far wider than anyone may have anticipated in the past.
Recently, NBA insider Nick DePaula conducted research over the most popular NBA player jerseys in each state in the USA. While LeBron James led most of the states, one state, in particular, had a surprising name as the most popular player jersey. Alabama’s best-selling NBA jersey was that of Mike Bibby (2nd Slide).
NBA fans reacted to this on Instagram, with most of them pointing out that Bibby’s jersey was not actually that common in the state. Whereas others were just shocked and confused by the statistical revelation. A few fans even made jokes about this bizarre statistic.

Bibby was certainly a very popular player during his career, especially during his stint in Sacramento. But there is still no clear explanation as to why he is so wildly popular in the state of Alabama, especially considering some of the names to have come out of Alabama, like Charles Barkley, Ben Wallace, and Boogie Cousins, among others.
Bibby’s popularity in Alabama is not only surprising, but it is also confusing. Bibby has almost no affiliation with Alabama, having been born in New Jersey, and playing high school and collegiate basketball in Arizona. And his father and uncle, who are also former athletes, have no affiliation with Alabama either.
