Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham’s latest update on Anthony Davis’ injury serves as good news, but he does have one condition.

The big man suffered a stress fracture to his right foot in December against the Denver Nuggets and has been sidelined since. Recent reports said he had ramped up his half-court activities and is well on his way to recovery.

Ahead of the Lakers’ clash against the Sacramento Kings, which they lost 116-111, Ham had an encouraging update about his star player who catapulted the team when they were in dire straits after enduring a torrid 0-5 start to the season. Prior to the injury, he was averaging 27.4 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks.

Per NBA’s Mark Medina:

Anthony Davis has just completed individual workouts. Not clear yet when he’ll be cleared for team practices. Lakers coach Darvin Ham: “You have to be careful. Feeling good after an individual workout could be a little bit different than when you got extra bodies on the floor.”

Per ClutchPoints, Ham also added that Davis has been putting in the hard yards with individual workouts ranging from 45 minutes to an hour and that he has been “pain-free” so far.

The Lakers Expect Anthony Davis To Return Before The All-Star Break

It’s been tough times for the Lakers without Anthony Davis on the floor. Much of the load has been on LeBron James, who has been scintillating for the team this season, averaging 29.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.0 assists. He finished with another 30+ point game against the Kings, but it wasn’t enough to help the side get over the line.

Per CBS’ Sam Quinn, LA is hopeful to have Davis back before the All-Star break, and that would mean hopefully suiting up for some of the games in February.

The Lakers play 10 games in February and all against sides that are potential playoff contenders. They will need the services of Davis and even the injured Austin Reaves and Lonnie Walker IV to make their postseason push.

They are 20-25 after the loss to Sacramento and will play the Memphis Grizzlies next, followed by a skirmish against the Portland Trail Blazers.
