Superstar Kevin Durant is one of the best players in NBA history, being highly regarded for his three-level scoring ability. He is one of the best isolation players in the NBA, and one of the biggest reasons for that is his unstoppable jump shot. Durant’s Phoenix Suns faced the Los Angeles Lakers in their latest matchup, with the superstar dropping 39 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists in the game.

We recently saw Lakers guard Austin Reaves explain why Durant is so unstoppable, noting that when he misses, it’s more so on him rather than it being anything the defense did.

“I think when KD misses, it’s more so he missed. You can play great defense, you can get a good contest, you can compete and try to make it harder for him, but he’s 7 foot with a 7-foot-15 wingspan. So anytime he shoots it, especially for me — 8-foot-3, what is that? — but anytime he releases it [the shot is unstoppable],” Reaves said, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

“I think I saw it was in the Finals when he was in Golden State, they paused at the top of his release and he was releasing it at like 10-2 or something. So, he’s releasing it over the rim. For me, that’s impossible to get to, especially as I’m trying to play good defense. But you just try to make it hard for him. He’s a world-class player for a reason.”

There is no doubt that Durant’s height and wingspan allow him to get his own shot against most defensive players consistently, particularly in the midrange area. Though his athleticism may have slightly declined since his prime, Durant makes up for it with experience and skill.

During the 2022-23 regular season, Durant averaged 29.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 40.4% from 3PT range. If he can keep this level of production up this season, Durant will certainly be in the MVP conversation, and we’ll see what happens in the future.

Kevin Durant Believes The Suns Will Be Unguardable

Aside from Durant, the Suns also have stars Devin Booker and Bradley Beal on the roster. Though Booker and Beal were unavailable in their recent matchup against the Lakers, the team will be a problem for defenses. In fact, previously, Durant explained why the Suns will be unguardable.

“You can’t guard all of us at once. Especially when guys like Booker can beat a double team. We have to play fundamentally sound ball, not turn the ball over, and we’ll be in solid shape on offense.”

The Suns have the star power and the depth to be successful. The key is of course for the team to stay healthy and develop chemistry. Hopefully, that ends up happening throughout the course of the season.

The Suns Are Kevin Durant’s Chance To Win A Championship Without Stephen Curry

There is no doubt that Durant played a huge part in the Golden State Warriors winning the 2017 and 2018 championships. However, the superstar has still not managed to win a championship without Stephen Curry as of right now.

On the Suns, Durant will have the opportunity to win a championship as the lead superstar and show the world that he can get it done without Curry. That will definitely give a boost to his overall legacy, and many will likely consider him a top 10 player of all time with another ring.

Hopefully, we see Durant find success in the future. He is in the right place to find championship success with younger players to help him out, and we’ll see how he does this season.
