- Reaves was asked to name four retired Team USA players players to join him in his dream starting five
- Reaves went with three Lakers stars and a Bulls legend
It seems like everyone has been asked to give their starting fives this offseason, and Austin Reaves recently gave his all-time Team USA starting lineup. Reaves was asked to choose four retired USA players to join him, and he went with some big names.
“Definitely gotta go Kobe (Bryant), MJ (Michael Jordan), Bron (LeBron James),” Reaves said. “Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal)? I guess? Shaq wore a USA jersey? Yeah, Shaq definitely.”

Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Shaquille O’Neal all enjoyed tremendous success with the national team.
Jordan helped Team USA win the gold medal at the Olympics twice, in 1984 and then in 1992. He played in four tournaments in total and won all of them, finishing his career with the national team with a perfect 30-0 record.
O’Neal, meanwhile, helped Team USA win the gold at the 1996 Olympics, and he was part of the team that won the 1994 FIBA World Cup as well.
Lastly, Kobe and LeBron would together lead the U.S. to gold at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. Just like Jordan, Bryant never lost a game with Team USA, compiling a 16-0 record at the Olympics and going 36-0 overall.
Austin Reaves Shared His List Of The Top Five Shooting Guards Of All Time
While this starting five wasn’t all that controversial, Reaves’ list of the top five shooting guards of all time did cause a bit of a stir. His list had Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, James Harden, and Brandon Roy.
Gilbert Arenas roasted Reaves for not including Allen Iverson on his top five shooting guards list, as he hilariously called for LeBron to drug test the 25-year-old. Reaves responded by stating that he didn’t consider Iverson to be a shooting guard, instead viewing him as a point guard.
While Reaves is not going to ever be as great as some of the names he mentioned there, he looks set to have a very good NBA career. He averaged 13.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game in the 2022-23 season to establish himself as a key piece for the Los Angeles Lakers.
