At 10th in the West and falling fast, panic is starting to set in for the Lakers, who are desperately looking for any way to salvage the season. With practically no answers on how to top the bleeding, Lakers guard Austin Reaves shed some light on the state of the locker room right now and things don’t sound encouraging…

“The mood is sh*t. We’re losing,” Reaves said, via Dave McMenamin. “Anytime you lose, the vibe should be off, you know? If I went in [the locker room] and the vibe wasn’t off after the rough stretch that we’ve had, then I’d be concerned. That’s really it. You know, I don’t expect for us to be happy with how we’ve played. So, until we figure that out, you know, the vibe should be off. We got to win games.”

The Lakers were looking good not too long ago. After winning the in-season tournament, there were hopes that they could keep the momentum going into the New Year. Obviously, that hasn’t been the case so far, and the situation is growing direr by the day.

Lakers Are In Free-Fall

Last season’s flurry of moves brought new life to the Lakers, and it propelled a latest-season run to the Western Conference Finals. While LeBron and company were ultimately swept by the Denver Nuggets, it was a miraculous display of resilience that they even got that far to begin with. So are the Lakers on a similar track this year?

Right now it’s hard to say anything with certainty about this team, but LeBron James‘ greatness is about the only thing they have going for them right now. Between health concerns for the co-stars, an inconsistent supporting cast, and a weird stalemate between Austin Reaves and Darvin Ham, the Lakers don’t have anyone to step up right now and it has caused inconsistency to plague their season. The worst sign yet came after Wednesday’s game against the Miami Heat, when LeBron outright ignored the media following his worst game of the season.

Changes Are Coming

Whether they come now or closer to February’s deadline, you can be sure that the Lakers will be looking to make some tweaks to the roster. Outside of James, Davis, and Reaves, anyone is expendable on the Lakers and that includes former All-Star guard, D’Angelo Russell. If the Lakers can use Russell (and potentially more) to add another star to the fold, it could be the ultimate solution to their current situation.

If not, the Lakers could opt to make a change on the sidelines by dismissing Darvin Ham. In recent days, it’s been reported that there is a growing disconnect between Ham and some of the players, perhaps indicating that he’s finally losing the locker room after a wild couple of months.

Whatever the case, the Lakers need to act fast. With LeBron at 39 years old and Davis’ injury risk rising, the walls are closing in for this team and the pressure is on to go out as winners before time finally catches up to them.
