Austin Rivers: ‘This One Will Be The Toughest Championship Ever Won’

2 Min Read

We’re closer to the see the return of the NBA and everybody is trying to give his two pennies on what is going to happen in Orlando for the next three months. The remainder of the season isn’t going to be easy for anybody given all the circumstances that brought the league to this point. The competition will be hard and whoever wins the championship will have big clout.

According to Austin Rivers of the Houston Rockets, this year’s title will be “one of the toughest championships ever won.” Talking with Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks, Rivers pointed out at all the situations players went through these past months to go to Orlando and try to recover their old shape, among other factors.

I think whoever wins should have an asterisk next to it, but only for it being one of the toughest championships ever won. You’re asking guys to take three to four months off, then come back and find chemistry, etc., and then play during a pandemic, all while players are fighting for BLM [Black Lives Matter].

There’s a lot going on right now. Crazy times and a lot of worry. And during these times, players are leaving their families to go live in a locked-down bubble. So for all these reasons and more, I think it will be one of the tougher championships ever won. Only season like this EVER.

Rivers’ Rockets are one of the teams expected to make some noise once the NBA returns. They’re counting on Rivers to bring help to the team that has big expectations around them. Moreover, skinny James Harden and bulked Russell Westbrook are set to lead this team to the promised land.

Rivers is averaging 8.5 points (35.8% on 3-pointers) and 2.4 rebounds in 23.4 minutes per game this campaign.
