Bam Adebayo On Preventing A Struggling Family’s Eviction: “It’s Gotta Be No. 1”

3 Min Read

Bam Adebayo is known as an amazing basketball player on the court. He was the second-best player on the Miami Heat after star Jimmy Butler and played a crucial role in their Cinderella run to the NBA Finals. Adebayo can run the floor, switch on defense, and pass at a high level, all invaluable skills for a modern big man. He is one of the best in the game at the center position.

However, Adebayo’s on-court impact can only be equaled by the good that he does off the court. Recently, Adam Caparell of Complex Sports reported that Adebayo had done his good deed for the holidays.

The right words were hard to come by Wednesday, if not completely inescapable, when Bam Adebayo, the talented young forward coming off his first All-Star season and a run to the NBA Finals with the Heat, surprised one Miami family with a holiday gift of a lifetime.

Adebayo showed up to the house of Travillia Bogan, a single mother of two sets of twins on the verge of facing eviction, and presented her with a year’s worth of rent. A week before Christmas, it’s the best present Adebayo has ever had the privilege of giving.

“It’s gotta be No. 1,” Adebayo told Complex exclusively. “Just helping somebody like that, in that situation, and all the negative situations that’s happened to her the last couple of months, that’s definitely top of my list.”

According to the article, Adebayo made sure to take care of the family by staving off their eviction. The NBA is known as a league that gives back to its communities: this was a very prominent example of that. Sometimes even during the holidays, people struggle with real-life problems like making rent. A family facing eviction during a pandemic is as horrible as it sounds, and it’s definitely amazing that Adebayo was able to prevent that circumstance.

Adebayo himself states that it is a top-tier feeling when he can give back. He saw someone who was struggling and helped out. This shows Adebayo’s character well, besides the instances we have seen on the court, and we can only hope more people are good samaritans like this in the future.
