Ben Simmons hasn’t played a game in the NBA since June 2021. The former first overall pick has gone through a lot of stuff over the last year or so. First, it was the trade saga surrounding Simmons’ stubbornness to play for the Philadelphia 76ers.

After a lot of back and forth altercations between Simmons and the 76ers, he was finally traded to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for James Harden. When the trade took place, fans finally expected Simmons to make his season debut and help the Brooklyn Nets win the 2022 NBA Championship.

But Simmons never made his debut, even when his team needed him the most during the Round 1 of the postseason. Later, it was revealed that Simmons was sidelined due to a back injury.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Simmons would undergo surgery and will rehabilitate till next season’s training camp.

“Brooklyn Nets guard/forward Ben Simmons underwent successful microdiscectomy surgery today at Cedars-Sinai Marina Del Rey Hospital in Los Angeles. The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Watkins IV. Following an initial recovery period of approximately three weeks, Simmons will begin a rehabilitation program. He is expected to make a full recovery prior to the start of next season’s training camp.”

Following this medical update from the Brooklyn Nets, fans started to pour in well wishes for the 25-year-old and hoped that he will have a successful surgery.

Simmons underwent the surgery and gave fans an update about it himself on his Instagram account. Ben wrote:

“Surgery went well thank you for the well wishes.”

Simmons was all smiles in the IG story that he posted and it is certainly good news for Nets fans. After a long wait, they will finally get to see him play in the upcoming season.

Hopefully Simmons’ return to the team will prove to be enough for the Nets to win an NBA Championship next season. But there is no way for us to know how well he will fit with the time, only time will answer that question.
