Boston Celtics Hire Nets Assistant Ime Udoka As Their New Coach

Just a couple of days after making his first big move as Boston Celtics’ GM, Brad Stevens has now found the team’s new coach.

As expected, the Celtics just reached an agreement with Brooklyn Nets’ assistant Ime Udoka, who made a strong impression within the organization and some of the players who worked with him in Team USA:

“The Boston Celtics are finalizing an agreement to hire Brooklyn Nets assistant Ime Udoka as the franchise’s new coach, sources tell ESPN. Udoka separated himself quickly in Brad Stevens’ search process, including significant support from Celtics players who were impressed with Udoka after working under him with Team USA in the World’s,” tweeted Wojnarowski.

The Celtics had made hiring an African American coach to succeed Brad Stevens and they did exactly so. Also, they’re giving a chance to a young, up-and-coming coach with plenty of experience and respect around the league.

The Boston Celtics recently swapped Kemba Walker with Al Horford and are expected to make several big moves to reshape their roster after yet another failed postseason run this season.

Now, they’ll also have Udoka’s input to determine the course of action, so we’ll have to keep an eye on the Celtics and Brad Stevens as they look to get back to the top of the Eastern Conference.
