The Western Conference Finals series between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets was arguably one of the most competitive sweeps we have ever seen in the NBA. The overall point differential for the series was just 24 points, an average of six points a game.
The Nuggets outhustled the Lakers down the stretch every game. Swingman Bruce Brown revealed that the Nuggets took that series personally, with Nikola Jokic in particular hellbent on proving he was the best player in the world.
“That series for us was more personal than any other series. I don’t know why but it was like, we were talking that sh*t. I have never seen Nikola speak on the court, he wasn’t talking sh*t but he was into the game. He was playing no games like he had something to prove, that he the best player in the world.”

That series was incredible, as Jokic averaged 27.8 points, 14.5 rebounds, and 11.8 assists in those four games. The reason the point differential was 24 points was that the Lakers lost by 11 points in Game 3, with all other games coming down to the final possessions.
The Nuggets Still Want To Prove They’re The Best
The Nuggets were often overlooked and dismissed as title contenders despite being the No. 1 seed in the West for almost the entire season. Jokic lost the MVP in a narrow race to Joel Embiid and had to regain his status as the best player in the world by having one of the most dominant postseason runs of all time.
Michael Malone wanted the Nuggets to become a dynasty, but they’ve taken some blows this summer. Rotation players Bruce Brown and Jeff Green have both let the franchise, with Brown’s departure possibly being a major one, given the team hasn’t replaced him with anyone. Hopefully, the Nuggets can keep this fire alive and shock the world once again.
