If you ask Cade Cunningham about where the Pistons rank against the rest of the league, he’ll tell you it’s not too far off from the best of the best. Despite the 2-29 record and a recent loss to the Boston Celtics, Cade still has faith in his team and seems to think that they are just a piece or two away from being competitive in the East.

“I think it shows like we’re on the same level as all these teams we’re playing against,” said Cunningham after the Pistons blew a double-digit lead to the Celtics. “There’s no team that I’ve ever come across in the NBA where I felt like I was going into a slaughterhouse.”

The Pistons are on a historic run right now, up to 28 straight losses after their collapse against the Celtics. Nobody thought they’d be a playoff team coming into this season but nobody imagined they’d be this bad and Cade is doing everything he can to stop the bleeding even though he’s still in denial about the season.

 The Only Beacon Of Hope

For a Pistons team that is on track for the worst season in NBA history, there aren’t a lot of positives to be taken from their run so far. In fact, they are at rock bottom this season as the laughing stock of the entire postrs world. Even so, they still have one player that they can feel good about, and that’s Cade Cunningham. While he’s far from perfect on the court, his composure, professionalism, and leadership through this losing streak have been encouraging to see and it’s been one of the few bright spots for this Pistons team.

Cade has also taken some real strides with his game of late, expanding his playmaking and shot-creating to an impressive degree. This season, through 31 games, he’s averaging 23.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game on 44.9% shooting and 34.3% from beyond the arc. If he can just improve as a defender and decision-maker, Cade could easily approach All-Star territory in the near future. Right now, he’s probably the only guy worth keeping on the Pistons roster.

No End In Sight For The Streak

At this point, the only question left to ask with the Pistons is when they will finally win a game. As bad as things look now, they should have some wins on the way considering no team in history has finished with fewer than seven. But, for now, the historic run continues and the whole world is watching to see how long this drags on.

With games coming up against the Raptors, Rockets, Jazz, and Warriors, the schedule certainly isn’t an easy one but they have some opportunities to avoid further embarrassment. Arguably their most winnable game on the calendar is against the Spurs at home on January 10th, but by then the streak will be at 34 straight losses and their place in history will already be written as the worst there ever was.

Needless to say, the situation is bleak in Detroit right now and there’s really nothing left for them to do but push forward and look for any opportunity to build up some confidence.
