Michael Jordan flaunts a spotless 6-0 record in the NBA Finals. Many tried to stain that record, but ultimately none succeeded in Jordan’s six NBA Championship runs.

During the 1993 NBA Finals, Charles Barkley tried a unique trick to throw Michael Jordan off his game. Chuck hired professional heckler Robin Ficker to harass Jordan from behind the Chicago Bulls bench.

“That was in Phoenix,” Ficker said on the Dan Patrick Show. “When he played for Phoenix. … He [Michael Jordan] claimed he hadn’t read Sam Smith’s Jordan Rules, which was a best-seller. I read him some of the embarrassing excerpts where he made comments about his teammates. … Occasionally I would make things up, and he would turn around when I did that and shake his head.”

Barkley obviously failed in distracting Jordan from his game. MJ averaged 41.0 PPG, 8.5 RPG, and 6.3 APG in the 1993 NBA Finals. Even on the road, Jordan was simply sensational as he posted 35.3 PPG, 9.0 RPG, and 7.0 APG over three games.

Behind Jordan’s sensational run, the Bulls clinched their third consecutive NBA Championship in six games. As for Barkley, he had a great series as well. Chuck had 27.3 PPG, 13.0 RPG, and 5.5 APG. But at the end of the day, he was no match for ‘His Airness.’

Michael Jordan Also Played Mind Games With Charles Barkley

During their playing days, Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley shared a close bond. Over the years, their friendship has been broken beyond repair, but during the 1993 NBA Finals, that wasn’t the case.

Despite being friends, each superstar obviously wanted to win the title. If Barkley hired a professional heckler to mess with Jordan, the Bulls legend also played mind games with him. Jordan bought a $20,000 diamond earring during the 1993 NBA Finals.

“He won’t get in my way the rest of the series, what’s $20,000 to me? Charles thinks we’re great friends. I hate that fat f**k.”

Jordan’s tactics worked well for him as he went on to drop 55 points in a 111-105 Game 4 win against the Suns. Barkley helped his team win Game 5, but the Bulls wrapped things up in the instrumental Game 6 of the series.
