Charles Oakley shed light on the influence Toronto Raptors legend Vince Carter had on Canada, saying the latter was responsible for getting every kid in Canada to hoop.
“Vince Carter…he changed the whole (lot) in Canada, whole state about the ball. He made other kids want to play ball,” Oakley said on KG Certified.

This isn’t the first time that the New York Knicks superstar was appreciative of Canada and Carter. In his new book ‘The Last Enforcer’, the big man relived his time with the Raptors.
“I had a great time. The first time I got there, I didn’t know too much about it … But once I got there, the people around me were just so nice,” he wrote. “The fans were great. The city’s got good food. It’s clean.” He also had his take on Carter calling him a brother.
Oakley spent three seasons with Toronto averaging 7.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists.
Charles Oakley Has Vince Carter And Tracy McGrady In His All-Time Lineup
When Oakley joined the Raptors, he was a veteran playing alongside a young and promising side that included Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady.
So it was no surprise that he picked both the players on his All-Time starting lineup. In the same interview with Garnett, he named his starting five and sixth man.
“I’ll probably have to go with Mike [Jordan] at the two,” he told Kevin Garnett on KG Certified. “Vince Carter at the three, I at the four, [Patrick] Ewing at five, and point guard? Well, I played with Steve Francis, so might as well. Trace [McGrady] is my sixth man.”
Oakley picking the two shows his faith in the players who made the Raptors a threat. Carter may not have had a championship to his name, despite his decorated career as a prolific scorer, but that wasn’t a prerequisite for Oakley.
