Chris Paul found another title window when he joined the Phoenix Suns in 2020 via trade. He was instrumental in the team making the NBA Finals in 2021 and then having the best record in the league the next season.

A lot has changed rapidly for the Suns, though. The franchise was bought by Mat Ishbia, they acquired Kevin Durant and fired Head Coach Monty Williams. And now it seems they are ready to move on from the 38-year-old Paul. Amid all the speculation, Paul gave his view on things.

“Absolutely,” Paul said to Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic when talking about staying with the Suns. “That’s why I’m there. I’ve talked with my family, we’ve had conversations about what could be, what might be. I’ve talked with my agent. Talked to my brother (C.J. Paul). I’m working out, training, spending time with my family.”

Chris Paul has given a lot to the Suns franchise in a short time, but they need to have a deeper roster that would potentially necessitate trading away Paul and even Deandre Ayton. That he wants to stay is a testament to his will to get the job done, but averaging 13.9 points for the season and missing crucial playoff games is unfortunately not likely to lead to a long relationship.

Los Angeles Lakers Reportedly Have A Strong Interest In Acquiring Chris Paul

If the Suns waive CP3, as has been discussed, a lot of teams could be interested in getting him on a cheaper deal. Despite being 38, Paul is still an efficient scorer, a great floor general, and an elite passer in limited minutes. And the Los Angeles Lakers have been strongly credited with an interest in getting him

“The Lakers would have a strong interest in signing Chris Paul if the guard is waived or stretched by the Suns, multiple team sources told The Athletic,” wrote Buha. “Here’s what you need to know: Signing Paul to a veteran’s minimum contract would allow the Lakers to use one of their exceptions on another player to bolster their depth.”

Chris Paul is owed $60 million over two seasons, which makes it difficult to move him unless he is waived or stretched. Chris Paul has proven doubters wrong time and again in his career, and if a contending team can add him to their roster, he might still be able to have a massive impact and help get them deep into the playoffs.
