Former Grizzlies swingman Dillon Brooks finds himself facing overwhelming backlash after his playoff elimination last week. Brooks, who was long viewed as a key defender and enforcer for the Grizzlies, was prone to trash-talk opponents before following it up with a sub-par performance.

Against the Lakers in this year’s playoffs, Brooks committed with worst atrocity yet with averages of just 10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game on abysmal shooting splits. It was so bad that Brooks is still the subject of conversation today and even has his own fan-made diss track that’s gone viral on social.

Brooks isn’t the only one to blame for the Grizzlies’ downfall, but he is apparently the scapegoat for their failed season. As a free agent this summer, Brooks is likely to land a new job with a different team, but it remains to be seen if anything about his game will change.

The only thing we know for sure about his future is that the Grizzlies will not be a part of it under any circumstances.

Why Was Dillon Brooks Exiled From Memphis?

While the Grizzlies did offer Dillon several extensions throughout the season, they made sure to let the world know that he will not be coming back this summer to rejoin the team.

In light of the controversies with Ja, it’s important for the franchise to send the right message, and that means starting with any troublemakers, even if some might disagree.

“The reality is that Dillon Brooks hurts them offensively. If you want to go in a different direction, that’s fine! That is fine,” said JJ Redick. “Do the antics, did that hurt them? I don’t know. I don’t know if that hurt them. There are other problems in roster construction, guys being out; there are other issues besides Dillon Brooks and him poking a bear.”

In the end, we might never know the full extent of the Brooks experience in Memphis, but we can judge what happens from here on out. With Brooks gone and Ja back in the right frame of mind after this IG Live scandal, there will be no more excuses for the Grizzlies next season.

If this team doesn’t see real results soon, we could start to see some heads roll within the next few years.
