Cooper Flagg, the 2025 NBA Draft standout prospect, named his all-time NBA starting lineup. While speaking to GQ Sports, Flagg named Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as his all-time starting 5.

“Okay, all-time basketball starting five? So, we got Magic Johnson at the one, MJ at the two, Kobe at the three, LeBron at the four, and Kareem at the five.”

Cooper Flagg named what might be one of the strongest lineups in NBA history, with all five players having an argument to be considered the greatest of all time. Between all five of the players he named, they have a combined 21 NBA championships, 17 Finals MVPs, 19 regular season MVPs, a whopping 85 All-Star nominations, and 71 All-NBA team selections.

Flagg got the chance to play with one of the names he mentioned on his team recently. He was chosen to be a part of the Select Team and scrimmage with Team USA ahead of their trip to Paris for the 2024 Olympics.

Flagg impressed several people at the camp and showed why he is considered the favorite to go first overall in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Flagg’s selections for his all-time starting 5 show his maturity and appreciation for the game. Several players his age would pick more recent players in the NBA, but Flagg picked at least three names that he wasn’t even alive to watch.

This proves that Flagg is a student of the game, and has gone back and paid close attention to NBA legends of the past and studied their game religiously. In another recent interview with Slam Magazine, Cooper Flagg revealed that he believes Michael Jordan is the GOAT, choosing His Airness over LeBron James.

Cooper Flagg Set To Become The Next NBA Superstar

Kevin Durant spoke after watching Cooper Flagg play against Team USA in the scrimmages with the Select Team. Durant lamented not being able to play against Flagg and noted that he showed nerves of steel playing against the best NBA players and not being nervous.

“I wish I had gone up against him at practice. But watching him from the sideline, he looked like a hell of a player. He’s somebody that’s only going to get better with more experience. He’s 17 years old coming in here playing like he’s a vet almost. No emotion, he’s going out there and doing his job. That’s a good sign.”

Cooper Flagg showed he can hang with NBA superstars, which is a very good sign for him going forward. As mentioned before, he is the standout prospect from the 2025 NBA Draft pool, and many expect him to be selected with the first overall pick.

In fact, many teams are even expected to intentionally tank in order to boost their chances at getting the first overall pick next year, just so they can land Flagg, who appears to be a generational talent in the making.

Flagg had an incredible senior year at Montverde Academy, putting up great numbers. He averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.6 steals, and 2.7 blocks per game. These numbers were enough to get him offers from all the top college basketball programs like UConn, Georgia, Michigan, and UCLA.

Flagg ultimately chose to commit to Duke. Perhaps Flagg could be the next great Duke standout to make it to the NBA. Players like Kyrie Irving and Zion Williamson come to mind when talking about Duke’s incredible history of producing NBA stars. And Flagg could be up next.
