Damian Lillard has made it clear he wants to leave the Portland Trail Blazers, but it appears he doesn’t want to burn bridges on his way out.

Lillard had caused quite a stir on Thursday by liking a tweet that called for ownership to sell the team to Phil Knight. He then took to Instagram on Friday to make it clear he accidentally liked it and that he’d never disrespect owner Jody Allen in that manner.

“She’s been solid behind closed doors regardless and I would never disrespect Jody in a way like that. It was literally a mishap. I would never do no funny s*** like that or try to be funny in no way like that. Jody, she’s has been very solid to me in many ways that has nothing to do with the Trail Blazers or basketball. Don’t run with that at all. Jody has been very solid to me.”

Lillard unliked that fan’s tweet at some point. Whether it was truly accidental or he just realized he made a mistake, only he really knows. Dame has though in the past, come to Allen’s defense. When a report emerged last year that she was refusing to speak to Lillard about the team, he refuted it. His statement back then read that she has always taken time to speak with him and they have a great relationship.

Phil Knight Wants To Buy The Trail Blazers

Knight, who co-founded Nike, is a Portland native and has long desired to buy the team. He and Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Allen Smolinisky had made an offer upward of $2 million for the Trail Blazers last year, but Allen refused to sell.

She then made it clear in a statement later that the team was not for sale. It was reported by The Wall Street Journal that Knight and Smolinisky have made attempts earlier this year as well to get in touch with Allen regarding a potential purchase, but she has been unwilling to change her stance.
