Coach Darvin Ham has shown that he is one of the best in the league, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to the Western Conference Finals this season. He has clearly accomplished a lot in his first season with the team, and the best is yet to come.

Despite his coaching talent, multiple teams passed on Darvin Ham when looking for a new head coach. When speaking to NBA Insider Marc Stein, he stated that all 10 teams that passed on him “f***** up”.

“My list featured the Celtics, Hornets, Bulls, Pacers, Timberwolves, Magic, Kings, Wizards and Clippers.”

“‘And Hawks,’ Ham interjected.”

“Then he added in reference to all 10: ‘They f—– up royally.”

For some of those teams, it is understandable for them to pass on Darvin Ham. The Sacramento Kings clearly made the right decision by hiring Mike Brown, as they broke their playoff drought this year. The Clippers already have one of the best head coaches in the league in Tyronn Lue. However, some of the other teams clearly have no excuse to pass on Darvin Ham.

Jeanie Buss Is A Fan Of What Darvin Ham Has Done With The Los Angeles Lakers

There is no doubt that there is a lot to like about what Darvin Ham has done with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is clearly the right person for the job and also commands the respect of the team’s stars. In fact, Ham claimed that Jeanie Buss told him he’s “doing a phenomenal job”.

“She gave me a big hug and told me: ‘Hang in there, you’re doing a phenomenal job and things are going to get right. We’re going to start winning consistently, but Darvin, we’re totally happy with what you’re doing and you and your staff are doing an excellent job,’” Ham said. “It was cool. It was really thoughtful.”

Hopefully, we see Darvin Ham continue to find success next season. The goal, as always is to win a championship, and we’ll see if Ham and the team are up for the challenge. The front office did manage to re-sign a lot of key players such as Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura, and we’ll see if continuity can take them to the next level.
