The NBA has a set of iconic greats that most players pattern their games after. You learn best when you’re analyzing the best, and that holds true even for NBA-level players looking at their peers.

Former NBA player and current Michigan Wolverines head coach Juwan Howard saw his son, Jett, get drafted in the 2023 NBA Draft as a lottery pick. While watching his son hoop in Summer League, Howard spoke about how he imagines his son will one day play the game like Kobe Bryant or LeBron James.

“I just remember those days when he’ll be banging the ball against the wall, bouncing the ball in the house. Imagining that he’ll someday be like a Kobe Bryant or a LeBron James. Now to see it all come to fruition, it’s a beautiful moment, it’s a blessing.”

Kobe and LeBron are incredibly high bars to match up to, but Jett can make an impact. He averaged 14.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in his sole season with Michigan. He was recognized on the All-Big Ten Third Team and the All-Big Ten Freshman Team. His scoring ability could be impactful in Orlando, but he’ll be fighting for minutes as a rookie.

Kobe Bryant And LeBron James Have Set Wonderful Examples

A lot of modern players owe a lot of their success to Kobe and LeBron. The current crop of NBA players is full of stars that idolized and studied Kobe incessantly. From what the 2023 Draft Class has said, LeBron seems to be the choice for many of them. We may see the likes of Devin Booker and Jayson Tatum inspiring another crop of stars that will be drafted in the 2030s or 2040s.

The dominance of Kobe and LeBron in the league can be aspired to but achieved by virtually no one. Both own records that could very well stand the test of time. They will forever be one-of-one creations in basketball, so out of the millions that look up to them, maybe they inspire the next one-of-one superstar.
