Darvin Ham took the Los Angeles Lakers to the 2023 Western Conference Finals in his rookie season as the head coach of the team. LeBron James was obviously a crucial part of the Lakers’ run.

After getting swept in the Conference Finals by the Denver Nuggets, LeBron James dropped hints about retiring from the league. However, the King is returning to play for at least one more season. Darvin Ham was undoubtedly happy with the revelation and had a hilarious reaction to it.

“My most valuable asset in the portfolio will remain intact,” Ham said while laughing.

Ham led the Lakers to a 44-38 record in the 2022-23 NBA season. Considering LeBron James and Anthony Davis missed several games due to injuries last season, it was an impressive feat for the rookie head coach.

With James and Davis expected to be healthy in the 2023-24 season, expectations are high from Ham and the Lakers.

Darvin Ham Wants To Win Championships With The Lakers

The mentality of a head coach is an extremely important factor in the success of an NBA franchise. So far, Ham has shown a great mentality as the head coach of the Lakers.

He was earlier asked about his expectations from the Lakers in the next season. Ham gave an answer that made Lakers fans extremely happy.

“Coming into next year, there’s gonna be expectations with this organization as it should be and what this organization has meant to the NBA and to the world of sports as a whole,” Ham said. “Each and every individual. Each and every player, coach, any person from the front office, any person working for our organization, we got to see how we can take this momentum and take it to an even higher level. To the point where we’re the ones that’s outside celebrating. We’re the ones that’s on our way to that final stage of playing in the NBA Finals.”

He added: “I didn’t come here to have more wins than losses, or make a playoff round one, or make a playoff run, I came to win.”

Can the Lakers hang championship banner No. 18 in the rafters with the team’s current core? It will be one of the biggest talking points for the media heading into the new season.
