Daryl Morey Throws Shade At Doc Rivers For Not Properly Using Joel Embiid And James Harden’s Pick And Roll

Daryl Morey subtly calls out Doc Rivers for not using Joel Embiid and James Harden's pick and roll properly.

The Philadelphia 76ers currently have a 38-19 record, which is good enough to be the third seed in the Eastern Conference. The dynamic duo of Joel Embiid and James Harden deserve all the credit in the world for keeping the 76ers competitive this season.

Joel Embiid once called his partnership with James Harden simply unstoppable. Even after that, is the 76ers head coach Doc Rivers making full use of the dynamic duo?

Well, Daryl Morey, the president of the Philadelphia 76ers, believes Rivers could use Harden and Embiid’s pick and role much better than he has been able to do so.

Daryl Morey also gets confused as to why the Sixers get away from Harden-Embiid PnR:

“And then there will be times you’re just like… why aren’t we doing the thing that’s working really well?”

I did underestimate the time it was going to take for Joel and James to develop a chemistry. Again, this is another place I like to see that consistency because when we have it humming it’s really humming, and you guys who watch every minute like I do have seen it. Then there will be times you’re just like, ‘Wait, why aren’t we doing the thing that’s working really well? What’s happening?’ I think I’d like to get more consistency there.”

Morey threw shade at Rivers for his tactics involving the dynamic duo of James Harden and Joel Embiid. Although Morey would like to get more consistency in the duo’s pick and roll, he isn’t overall disappointed by them.

If anything, Morey mentioned that he seriously underestimated the time it would take Embiid and Harden to build chemistry with each other.

Is Doc Rivers’ Job With The 76ers In Jeopardy?

Doc Rivers took the reigns of the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2020-21 NBA season. So it’s only his third year as the coach of the franchise. But taking the presence of Embiid and Harden into account, Rivers doesn’t really have a lot of time.

Morey and the ownership expects Rivers to lead the team to an NBA Championship. Considering the fact that Embiid and Harden have already created great chemistry between themselves, Morey will hope that Rivers can get the job done this season.

But if having one of the best duos in the NBA is not enough for Rivers to help the 76ers win the title, he may get relieved from his job in the future. However, there are no rumors about anything of that sort happening anytime soon.
