In the NBA world, Wilt Chamberlain is well-known for his record-setting. The most notable one is obviously the 100 point game, but there are plenty of other Wilt Chamberlain records that have been left unbroken by others due to their absurdity.

It seems as though one Wilt Chamberlain has been toppled today though. DeMar DeRozan has officially broken Wilt Chamberlain’s record for most consecutive games with 35 points while shooting 50% from the field.

There is no doubt that this is a fantastic achievement for DeMar DeRozan. Any of the records set by Wilt Chamberlain are difficult to break, and this one is particularly difficult to break for a perimeter-based player like DeMar DeRozan. Shooting above 50% from the field for consecutive games isn’t easy, especially if one is taking jumpers instead of getting most of their offense at the rim.

DeMar DeRozan is currently having a career season, and there’s no doubt that he’s an MVP candidate this year. DeRozan is currently averaging 27.9 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 5.1 APG on the season, and his PPG is a career-high. DeMar DeRozan evolved from an All-Star caliber player into a legitimate MVP candidate, and there have been some who have suggested that he should be in the conversation for the Most Improved Player award

The Chicago Bulls have become a powerhouse with DeMar DeRozan joining them, and there’s no question that they are a contending team in the Eastern Conference. Hopefully, DeMar DeRozan can continue to lead the team to wins, and that will be sorely needed as they currently have multiple players out with injuries.

While the Chicago Bulls aren’t viewed as the favorite for the NBA championship, they definitely have a chance of winning it all. They have a solid team who is sound on both ends of the floor, and perhaps we’ll see them surprise us in the playoffs.
