When reports claimed LeBron James would be playing in the Drew League, everybody in Los Angeles tried to make it to the big game, where the King would showcase his talents and prove that he still got it and is serious about bouncing back next campaign.
He didn’t make it there by himself, as Los Angeles native DeMar DeRozan was with the King when he took a team that made life complicated for his team. In the end, LeBron dropped 42 points and gave fans many highlights to remember for the rest of their life.
DeRozan recently sat down with Draymond Green to discuss a variety of topics, including his participation in the Los Angeles-based league. He revealed how LeBron hit him up one week before they went at it.
“The previous weekend, Bron had hit me after I played in it and was like, ‘Yo, I’m trying to come down there and play with you.’”
It was an epic experience for the Chicago Bulls star, who even compared sharing touches with LeBron to seeing Kobe Bryant doing his thing in the same competition many years ago.
“It was one of those moments you can’t duplicate..I remember when Kobe came and played in the Drew that was kind of one of the most epic moments.”

“It was one of those moments that you can’t duplicate,” said DeRozan. “Like, I remember when Kobe (Bryant) came and played in the Drew. That was kind of one of the most epic moments of how he did that, but it wasn’t even supposed to have been a game played that day.
“This time around, with Bron coming, it was a game supposed to be played. I’ve been playing in it and wake up that morning and see the line around the Drew League stretched around the corner.”
LeBron is a trend-setter and after he showed up for the Drew League, more players followed through. Trae Young made an appearance with John Collins last weekend, with the latter becoming the first NBA player to foul out of a Drew League game.
The offseason is still young and we have no doubt that more players will take part in Pro-Am competitions around the US. Of course, not everybody will have the same impact as LeBron, but it’s great to see that other stars take other competitions seriously.
