The Los Angeles Lakers just about managed to preserve home-court advantage in their series against the Golden State Warriors with a 104-101 win in Game 4.

The Lakers winning the fourth quarter 27-17 is what helped them come out on top, and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said a big reason for that is they flopped and got some calls. Dennis Schroder didn’t take too kindly to those comments and fired back.

“At the end of the day, if they set illegal screens, sometimes you gotta show them that they are moving on the screen,” Schroder said.

(starts at 18:00 mark):

Schroder, somewhat admitting that they flopped, might lead to the officials not giving them those calls the rest of the way, but that remains to be seen. The Warriors have been accused of using illegal screens for years to get Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson wide-open looks. They obviously don’t believe they are doing it, but former Warrior Andrew Bogut once stated that he got away with fouls on screens when he was with the team

Golden State is far from being the only team that does this, as illegal screens are a real problem in the NBA today. We have perhaps seen a lot more of them being called recently, but the referees will never get it right all the time, as it is a judgment call at the end of the day.

The Lakers Are Now In Pole Position To Win This Series

Whether the calls were correct or not, the fact of the matter is that the outcome remains the same, a Lakers win. They are now up 3-1 and with LeBron James having never lost a series after taking a 3-1 lead, their chances of advancing look pretty good. It is going to take a brutal collapse for them to lose from here on out and it seems highly unlikely that will happen.

Schroder is far from the biggest reason why they have this lead, but he has been a reliable contributor off the bench. The German has played good defense while also averaging 11.3 PPG, 2.0 RPG, 2.3 APG, and 1.3 SPG. It is safe to say his stock around the league is going to be a lot higher this offseason than in the last one.
