27-year-old Dennis Schroder could have been an NBA Champion by now. According to a statement made by the talented point guard himself, the Lakers and Clippers have been trying to get him to join.
Instead, he says he’s happy where he’s at.
“Yes, I have received offers. But I never wanted to go to the Lakers, the Clippers or all the names that may have called my agents,” Schroder said to the MagentaSport podcast, per Sport 1. “In the end, I’m good with the GM (Sam Presti – the OKC General Manager) and that was my decision. I said that I like the organization here better,” Schroder added.
Schroder may not be a superstar, but he’s a guy that can make a difference for any team, especially on the offensive end. Last season, he averaged 18.9 points, 4 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game on 46.9% shooting.
Entering an offseason of much uncertainty, however, there is no guarantee we’ll see Schroder suit up for OKC again. As the Thunder continue to look for ways in which to build up their future, they might not be opposed to giving up some of their core veterans.
But the fact that Schroder, and many other players, seem so committed to the franchise says a lot about the organization and how GM Sam Presti interacts with the players.
