Dennis Schroder Responds To Fan Who Tells Him To Sign His Extension With Lakers: “No Thanks…”

2 Min Read

27-year-old Dennis Schroder has played a big role for the Lakers this season. Serving as the starting guard, and secondary ball-handler (behind LeBron James of course), he is one of the few guys on the Lakers who has been mostly consistent on the offensive end, averaging 15.4 points, 5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game on 43.5% shooting.

Considering his performance this season, it’s no surprise to find out that the fans are pushing to get him to sign an extension with the team.

Unfortunately, as he bluntly told one Lakers fan on Instagram, he’s perfectly fine waiting until the summer.

Schroder is on the last year of his deal, so he has full power in determining where he goes next. It’s likely he’ll command $20 million or more, and it’s hard to believe there won’t be a number of teams willing to give him that deal.

For the Lakers, however, things might get a little complicated.

They’d no doubt prefer to keep Schroder around, but can they really afford to out-bid for him when they’re already having to deal with two max contract players? It’s certainly a question that bears some thought, and it’s clear that the Purple and Gold will have a lot to consider as they head into the 2021 offseason.

With only years left on LeBron James’ clock, they really can’t afford to misstep.
