Dirk Nowitzki is in awe of former rival LeBron James and the things he’s doing on the court despite being in his 20th NBA season. The King has proven to be the longevity GOAT in the league, and everybody is taking note of that.

After a terrible 2021-22 NBA season for his Los Angeles Lakers, Bron is trying to return to the playoffs, but things aren’t clicking for the Purple and Gold. They showed glimpses of brilliance at some point, but after Anthony Davis went down with an injury, the Lakers are struggling to find their pace.

LeBron is trying to keep them alive, but his teammates aren’t doing the job they’re expected to do. After Friday night’s game against the Charlotte Hornets, he looked mad at his teammates and refused to get helped by them. James has made it clear he’s not disappointed with anybody, but his body language tells the opposite.

Dirk Nowitzki Believes LeBron James Can Still Carry A Team

Meanwhile, he’s still showing that he can lead his team to compete in the Western Conference. Many fans think the Lakers need to make a trade to improve their chances of winning something, and James’ cryptic messages suggest that he’s on the same page as the fanbase.

Nowitzki thinks that Bron is doing an impressive job this year, even with all the struggles the Lakers have experienced. Talking to Howard Stern of Sports Illustrated, the German legend had nothing but praise for LeBron.

“I’m in awe of what he does in Year 20,” Nowitzki says. “I mean, in Year 20, the team was kind of carrying me up and down in a wheelbarrow or something.”

Dirk admits that LeBron sticking around shows that he’s committed to the team, but that doesn’t make anything easier for him or the Lakers.

“It comes with sticking with the program, and not leaving when times are tough,” Nowitzki says. “[James] decided to stay there and make it work, and it’s part of the gig. You got to fight through some tough times and find ways to use your experience to turn the situation around.”

LeBron is carrying the team at this point, and that’s not a secret, but the Lakers need to do something before it’s too late for them. James can only do so much, which won’t be enough to take this team to the promised land again. Dirk is confident that he can do a good job, but LBJ needs the right pieces around to thrive.
