• Bronny James was rushed to hospital after he suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday during basketball practice
• More than 356,000 people suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrest each year in the USA alone
• Dr. Brian Sutterer explains Bronny James was ‘essentially dead’ for a few moments after suffering a cardiac arrest
The news of USC All-American Bronny James suffering a cardiac arrest on Monday during practice spread like a wildfire.
Fortunately, Bronny is out of ICU, as confirmed by the James family. But what exactly happened to the 18-year-old? Dr. Brian Sutterer explained this in detail in a YouTube video.
“He was practicing, so presumably, there was some type of exertional component or something that happened around his athletics,” Sutterer said.
He then explained the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest.
“A heart attack implies there has been some blockage in the vessel supplying blood to the heart,” Sutterer added. “Cardiac arrest is more of a generic term, implying that something happened to cause the heart to stop beating. When the heart stops beating, you’re essentially dead.”

Thanks to the USC medical staff acted quickly and rushed him to the hospital. James is currently stable and in recovery. Many are praying for Bronny’s safe recovery so he can continue playing basketball.
Bronny James’ Basketball Career Is In Jeopardy
Bronny James may be just 18 years old, but suffering a cardiac arrest can be a life-altering event for the eldest son of LeBron James.
In fact, it’s not clear whether Bronny will be able to play basketball in the future or not. It has been reported LeBron James has entered full dad mode to try and help his son in any way possible.
Bronny is a five-star recruit and is expected to be a lottery pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Of course, that’s if he is healthy and cleared for basketball-related activities.
